A Thousand Splendid Suns

I thought this book was amazing. Absolutely amazing. I could not stop reading it. It was so insightful, beautiful, heartbreaking and moving. It really made me so grateful for my life, my husband, and the land we live in. It also made me want to do more for the women of Afghanistan and Pakistan. I'm making several people read it, including my dear husband ;)

summary:

A Thousand Splendid Suns is a breathtaking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan's last thirty years -- from the Soviet invasion to the reign of the Taliban to post-Taliban rebuilding -- that puts the violence, fear, hope, and faith of this country in intimate, human terms. It is a tale of two generations of characters brought jarringly together by the tragic sweep of war, where personal lives -- the struggle to survive, raise a family, find happiness -- are inextricable from the history playing out around them... (From the inside flap of the book)

Five out of five stars on this one.

i bought this book and i think it's still on my shelf. maybe. or maybe it sat on my shelf for so long that i figured i would never read it and sold it back to the book garden...

i never read the kite runner, either. for shame!

i didn't love 'the kite runner' like i loved this book. 'the kite runner' was a tough book for me, emotionally. this book, although emotional, just hit a nerve. i loved it.
