The Lovely Bones

Since this book was just reviewed a couple of posts ago, you can borrow that post's picture (see below), ingrain it in your mind, then come back up and read my review. :)

In three words I deem this book: eerie, sweet, and artistic.

Okay, so this book too me way longer to read than anticipated. NOT because it wasn't good, because it was. It just wasn't a big "page turner" for me; however, the first few chapters were and the last couple. But the inbetween (no pun intended) was a little draggy.

I actually like this book more now that I've finished. It has a lot of "reflection" values to it. The author, Alice Sebold, did a great job with tying everything together and making the book more about learning and growing from a tragedy, than a horrific rape/murder. I know, for those of you who haven't read this book you're thinking 'rape and murder!?'...the first chapter is a little much. But Sebold does it with such a style that I found it okay to read (and I usually can't read that stuff). Plus she weaves humor in and out of this book which dilutes the tragedy details a bit.

One of my favorite parts in reading this book was finding out what "The Lovely Bones" were. Because it wasn't what I expected. Very cool. Very deep. I liked this book. Now I'm going to rent the movie. (Although I heard it is more of a "horror" movie....)

3.5 out of 5 stars

Gina, you'll need to tell me how the movie is. I have friends who saw it and one of them made her husband walk her to and from her car for three weeks afterwards :)
I have a feeling those results arent typical!

Steph! So excited you joined!

Yeah, I'll let you know about the movie. I usually do okay with scary movies. But I'll have to wait until it comes out to rent.
