sarah's quilt

For those of you who haven't read These Is My Words, shame on you ;D Sarah's Quilt is the follow-up to that book and I have to say I liked it. Didn't love it like I loved the first one but I did enjoy reading it. You can't help but love Sarah and her feisty-ness/sweet ignorance. I don't know quite how to describe her, she's one of those people who everyone gravitates to because you know that she truly cares about everyone around her, would give her right arm to help them, yet she does have her own wily ways that make her even more endearing. If any of you have seen Rodgers and Hammerstein's 'Oklahoma!', she is Aunt Eller to me (or will be when she's 60 years old).

This book continues her story of surviving in the Arizona territories in the year 1906. Her children are almost grown and she faces hardship after hardship but is always determined to come out on top. Although this book is loosely based on the author's great-great-great (don't know how many) grandmother, most of it is fictional, but it still gives the reader a greater understanding and respect for those pioneers who settled this wild land. I'm excited to read the third and final book in the series, The Star Garden.

Just a word of advice from my dear Sarah,

"A nice girl should never go anywhere without a loaded gun and a big knife."

Oh how true she was ;D

It's a darn good thing I have all my books stamped. I can never remember who has them or what, exactly, I have lent out. I should start some sort of tracking system, like a libray or something.
