The Goose Girl

In three words I deem this book: cute, predictable, and cliche.

{This book has already been reviewed, click here for the synopsis.}

I wasn't a huge fan of this book for a few reasons: 1) it was too light for me, it lacked depth in both character building and plot (however, it is a GREAT book for tweens because of how light and clean of a read it is), 2) the plot was waaaay to predictable (I mean come on, I called that Geric dude from the first second he entered the page!), and 3) the "magic" was a little random and seemed like there was no reason for it...and I'm a huge fan of fantasy.

Okay, having said that, I will give this book a "liked" rating because it was CUTE. Just a little too cute for me. However, I'm going to recommend this book to my niece, she'll love it. And that's not saying you have to be a tween to love it - just don't be expecting Lord of the Rings fantasy/castle/royalty. Think more along the lines of: feature family film. Am I rating this too harshly? Don't kill me Ariel. :)

oh gina gina gina GINA.

i guess i just LOOOVE cute! most of my favorites would fall in the "cutesy" young adult fantasy genre :) haha i think i love shannon hale's books for all the reasons you don't!

♥ love how light they are.
♥ love the very small dose of fantasy... i'm not into the intense fantasy stuff. they are more like folklore or fairy tales.
♥ and i don't even mind how predictable they are!

it's ok, gina. i guess we are just not book bosom buddies. :)

keep reading. There are two more books in the series for more character development.

yeah i didn't like the other ones in that series... so good luck if you try them out.

gina - i'm with you and i'm not. i like getting a dose of both worlds once in awhile, i loved this book but then i also love darker books or even more fantasy books (LOVE LOTR). i like switching it up sometimes, like when i've read something too dark i like to read a cheesy, light-hearted, nonsense novel to even up the playing field :D
