In three words I deem this book: witty, authentic, and unforgettable.
This book was formally reviewed here. And upon finishing her review I decided to read it myself. I'm always interested in a good love story, especially when compared to Rhett and Scarlett from Gone with the Wind. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure I was taken on by Mrs. Captain Jack Elliot, formally Miss Prine.

I liked the"book group discussions" offered in the back of the book - specifically these two questions below. What do you think?
- Using first-person narrator limits the reader's perspective. At times, one may feel that Sarah is neither honest with herself nor correctly interpreting others' actions or feelings. How might the book have changed if it were written in third person?
- Does it mean anything that we never know Sarah's mother's name?

I loooove how it is written in the first person. Part of the fun of the book is that although Sarah denies having feelings for Jack, it is obvious to the reader that she does. I think it's also important because it shows how strong Sarah is. She writes about many of the hardships she endures so matter-of-fact-ly. Reading it in the first person gives you so much insight into the charachter that you wouldn't get from a third person narration. Loved it.
As for the mother question... I have no idea! I didn't even notice that her name was never mentioned!
I agree, I love that it's narrated in 1st person. I loved being to tell that she was totally head over heels for Jack, but would never come out and say it. So cute.
I just stumbled onto this blog, I hope you don't mind if I comment. I loved this book too! I was prepared to hate it (hello, grammar error IN THE TITLE!!!) but loved it. Everything that happened felt so natural and I loved how she was happy no matter what life gave her. Great book. I plan on reading the next two in the series.
loved this book! i was bawling (seriously) by the end and remember that jake had just gotten home. he saw me crying and asked what was wrong and i could barely answer, "i just finished the best book!" "but you're crying," he replied, "so how can it be good?" "it just is," i said. and really, i'm with rachel, wasn't too sure of it judging it by the title (spogg...) but it was a pleaser. i love that she was so matter-of-fact, not afraid to show up the men with her sharpshooting, not afraid of dirt and hard work. but really, what an amazing woman! very inspiring, that's for sure.
