Gone With The Wind

Thank you so much for having me on your blog. I am so excited to be a contributor. Reading and I are newlyweds. I was a little more concerned with my social life when I was younger than my book learnin'. But after I read my first, and forever favorite, book I fell in love. Who new that something so seemingly boring could be so riveting? I have always loved the movie, Gone With The Wind, and so when my small family and I visited Gettysburg, PA last summer I felt a true connection with the hollowed grounds. I decided to read this massive giant so I could more fully understand the era without being bored to death with a list of facts. I could not put this beauty down! I learned so much and was completly swept up in the lives of the characters. I told my husband that I wanted to meet Melanie Hamilton if I go to heaven and he had to remind me that she is a fictional character.

This book is my number one recommendation. I love it. I want to marry it. I could talk about it and only it for eight years and still have more to say. The book is, as always, so much better than the movie; which is saying a lot as this is my all time favorite flick. Here are a few of my favorite things to analyze:

*Scarletts transformation from the first chapter to the last. The choices she made and the circumstances that molded her.

*How similar our society was before the economic crisis to life in the southern states. (Is this cycle of pride foreshadowing the next few years?)

*The differnt attitude Melanie takes in comparison to Scarlett when in the same circumstances. (and the similarites)

*Margaret Mitchell was a southerner. Was her take on the slaves fair or slanted?

I can't wait to hear what you think of this book! Don't let the length intimidate you. You will be glad that the story doesn't end where it could and cry when it ends when it should.

6 out of 5 stars!

I'm totally going to read that now. I remember seeing bits and pieces of the movie when I was little, but I really don't know much about the whole story. But I LOVE when I read a book and I learn about other times and places.

I love this book and the movie. I have a personal connection to it since this is where my parents got my name from. I've also been to the actual Hill of Tara in Ireland.

I think everyone should read this book. It's amazing. I also enjoyed the sequel (written by a different author) Scarlett although it's not quite as good.
